Hrithik Roshan
As usual, this year, my birthday was supposed to be celebratory. However, it turned into a nightmare when my father was struck by a black Scorpio.
The unfortunate incident occurred on October 27, 2024, between 6 pm and 8 pm at City Center Mall, Buddha Marg, Patna. My parents had planned a dinner outing. Upon reaching the venue, we waited near Starbucks, where my father received a call. Suddenly, a black Scorpio (BR*******2) reversed at high speed, hitting my father. When we confronted the driver, A*** P*****, who was accompanied by three or four others in the vehicle, he responded aggressively. “Jaanta hai hum kaun hain?” (“Do you know who I am?”) he retorted, trying to assert his influence.
The commotion drew a crowd, and the mall security intervened, quickly escorting us to Tara Hospital. Before leaving, the car’s occupants claimed they would park and return, but instead, they fled.
Later that night, around 2:00 AM, my friends and I went to Buddha Nagar police station to file an FIR. Despite our efforts and rewriting our statements twice, the officers kept stalling, asking us to return the next day after 2:00 PM. It felt like they were deliberately delaying the process to push us into starting over with the next shift. Neither the mall management nor the police provided the CCTV footage, raising serious concerns about potential tampering with evidence.
We also discovered that the Scorpio in question already had multiple pending traffic violations. Despite the accident being clearly recorded on CCTV, no action has been taken.
As a result of the accident, my father required hip replacement surgery and now faces lifelong restrictions. It has been over 20 days, and my family has been unable to sleep. My father continues to endure immense pain. Today, I feel ashamed to say I come from Bihar, a state where law and order seem non-existent.
My father, a man who takes pride in his hard work and independence, now finds himself restricted. He gets irritated with me when I try to make him smile, a reflection of the frustration brought on by these sudden changes in his life. The perpetrators have robbed us of even the smallest moments of joy. Despite everything, the police haven’t taken his statement, and we have yet to receive any updates from the station. Meanwhile, the accused roams free, having caused permanent harm to my family and stolen every ounce of our peace and happiness.
A few days ago, I received a call from the accused. He mockingly asked about my plans. When I replied, “We will see in court,” he simply laughed and hung up.
Through my research, I discovered that the accused was booked under BNS 281/125, a minor offense, despite the severity of the incident. He should have been charged under Section 307 IPC. When I recently asked the police if they had located and seized the vehicle, they claimed they were still searching for it. Meanwhile, the accused’s Instagram paints a very different story.
When people say justice only serves the rich and influential, I can’t help but wonder—are they right?
