Throughout my two years in Kota, I was constantly humiliated based on my performance, even by teachers. I remember I was abandoned once and told to get out of the class, just because I wanted to attend few classes of topper batch, only to understand the subject clearly.  I am not complaining about all the teachers, but the aura of Kota has shown me this humiliated treatment to which I can never forget.

I am basically from a village Guna, Madhya Pradesh, with the least populated area of this diverse crowded India. After 10th I had no idea what field I should go to, so as per other’s advice I went for IIT since my cousin was also going for the same field.

It took me a month to adjust to this new city. Food alone was a big of challenge for me. On top of that, we needed to appear the pressure test. The more you score, the more you move up in ranks and become a part of higher batches. I cheated on my first test, and everyone was amazed by my fake performance. My marks had helped me, to get assigned to top batches. I also made talented friends. But this was short-lived.

As feared, my performance eventually degraded. My graph dropped like a recession’s portfolio! My friends started acting alien. I was moved to the D8 batch – one of the lowest. Even the relationship with my cousin had become limited, with no eye contact at all. We were supposed to live together but he was constantly reminded that I was bad company!

Throughout my two years, I was constantly humiliated based on my performance… even by teachers. I remember I was abandoned once and told to get out of the class, just because I had wanted to attend a few classes of the topper batch, only to understand the subject clearly.  I am not complaining about all the teachers, but the aura of Kota had strained me so much that I can never forget.

After failing, I learned a big lesson in my life- follow your inner voice, which you are good at. It is not necessary to follow the herd. If I had opted for any other career path, I would have become something else. This is not a heroic story of success, this is my story of facing failure.

Now a days, before making any decisions on my life the first thing that I ask myself is “Is it necessary for me or am I just following the trend like others?”
